2017 Roadmap

     Hey look, no exclamation points! Aw, nuts, I just did it again. 

     The new year is upon us and I wanted to take a minute to give everyone an idea of what 2017 has in store for Charcoal City! We were very fortunate to sign our first contracts in 2016 and since then we have signed on to do even more games for Legends of Learning. In total we will be completing 10 games by March! It sounds a little daunting when I say it like that, but I'm confident we can deliver by the deadline.

     That covers Q1, but what about the rest of the year? Our plan is to return to working on original concepts in April once our contract with Legends of Learning has been completed, getting a vertical slice / prototype ready by Q3 (sometime this summer). We will be showing it around to publishers and working on putting up a Kickstarter around that time as well, so be on the lookout for news and updates as we get closer! Our vision for what the game is has changed since we stepped away from it for a while. We're also working on coming up with a name that suits the new direction. For now we're just calling it Project Seven. Our plan for Q4 is to spend time fleshing out Seven and get a playable version up on Steam Early Access. We would love to get the game into the hands of players as soon as possible and get their feedback on how to make the best game we can.

     I say all of that with the caveat that we are constantly talking to people about potential work for hire contracts as well. Any contracts we pick up will push back the time table on Seven. Client work is always bitter-sweet (see my post about getting our first contract) but I believe it helps us grow as a company and game developers, and it helps us make our games even better in the long run.
