In addition to the games we are working on as a studio, the founders of Charcoal City Games have worked on numerous projects over their careers in the games industry. Below are some examples.

Cho'Gath Eats the World

Cho'gath Eats the World is a web and mobile based retro arcade style action game using characters from Riot Games' League of Legends IP. We were able to create a faithful interpretation of their brand to be unveiled as a fully playable “April Fool’s” joke, which was played by over 2.3 million people, and widely well received by fans. We worked with the art team to generate game ready assets from concepts, as well as programming in Haxe and later C# to create systems and gameplay features.


MUD

MUD is an open world sandbox action adventure RPG created by Pure Bang Games in Baltimore MD. On this project we were responsible for establishing and maintaining a visual style, which included importing  3D models and animations into the Unity engine as well as utilizing Unity’s lighting and skybox systems to create an appealing environmental aesthetic and dynamic day/night cycle. We created textures and materials for use in game. We were also responsible for programming several gameplay features including synchronous multiplayer using the ULink plugin. 

In addition we were responsible for creating both a cinematic trailer and a gameplay trailer from storyboard to completion.

Blitzcrank's Poro Roundup

Blitzcrank's Poro Roundup is another retro de-make created for Riot Games based around their League of Legends IP. BPR is an arcade style score chaser where players have to collect the adorable poros and save them from the evil Baron Nashor. We were responsible for creating visual effects and assisting with programming and design. BPR was developed in Unity C# for web and mobile. 


Dark Forest

Dark Forest is an art prototype for an unreleased game. The idea was to create a scene that set a mood: in this case a dark, claustrophobic forest. We created all pixel art, animations, particle effects, and lighting effects.

This prototype was created in Unity C#.

Starship Voyager

Starship Voyager is an educational game about exploring the solar system. It was created for the Legends of Learning educational game platform. Legends of Learning is a company that is developing a platform for delivering high quality educational games using WebGL. We were contracted to make a number of educational games for Legends of Learning.

Starship Voyager was developed in Unity C# and deployed for WebGL.


Journey of Energy

Journey of Energy is another educational game created for the Legends of Learning platform. In this game the player follows the molecules used in photosynthesis along their journey as they become energy for the plant.

Little Newton

Little Newton is a third educational game created for the Legends of Learning platform. Little Newton is a physics based platformer in which the player learns new abilities related to Isaac Newton's Laws of Motion. The payer must use these abilities to reach the end of the level and solve an equation using Newton's famous F = ma formula.

Little Newton was developed using Unity C# and deployed for WebGL.


Deep Dive

Deep Dive is an underwater themed endless runner created by Pure Bang Games. For Deep Dive we were responsible for using 2D Toolkit and NGUI to integrate 2D game and UI assets into Unity as well as creating in game cutscenes. We worked with Unity's lighting and shaders to create visually appealing effects. We created game systems using Unity C#. We also created guidelines and optimized scripting to ensure the game runs on a wide range of devices.
